When journalists think they’re producing content, pure and simple, they’re wrong, says Krishna Bharat, the founder of Google News. In the same way that a Starbucks barista thinking she simply produces coffee is wrong.

You think you’re there for coffee, but you’re really there for the full experience — the music, the collegiality, the reading space, the aroma, the brand. You pay for coffee, sure; but the whole experience is what counts.

The same is true for news.

It’s the overall experience rather than the simple product that counts. The challenge for publishers is how to offer to their users coherent news experiences whether they engage on the Web, on mobile or on tablets.

Grig Davidovitz of has been helping publishers worldwide, including Hearst Magazines (US), 24Sata (Croatia), Israel Today (Israel),  and TTG (Italia), to address that challenge.

NewsShowFlyerFollowing several highly-reviewed workshops for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFA), the Digital Editors Network (UK) and the Journalism Leaders Programme at UCLAN have invited Grig to present a one-day masterclass  from 10am to 5pm Friday, October 21st in Preston. Registration and coffee from 9:30am in Scholars, Foster Building, UCLAN.

More details about the #newsshow are available here.

If you’re planning to attend, make the most of your trip to the capital of Lancashire by joining the linked #TruthTelling master class with deception detection experts Cliff Langley and Dr Dawn Archer on Thursday, 20th October. That workshop will be followed by the autumn meeting of the Digital Editors Network (with presentations by Guardian News and Media’s Community Strategist Sarah Hartley and others), a networking reception and the 14th Journalism Leaders Forum. The Forum, co-sponsored by the Society of Editors, will consider, “Press Regulation: Quo Vadis?”
